Chapter 8

Destiny’s first look at her new homeworld was one she wouldn’t have missed for anything. Fortunately, her mates had been onboard—albeit reluctantly—with finally allowing her out of the cabin so she wouldn’t miss the sight of the ship’s descent into the planet’s atmosphere. Even if it felt a bit like prying them out of there.

It had been uncannily rather like an episode of the Crocodile Hunter if the lovable lunatic had decided to take it upon himself to untangle a nest of angry snakes. Her mates had rattled and hissed at each other whenever they accidentally collided as they got off the bed and tried to make room for her to exit the cabin. Finally, having had more than enough, she pushed her way through and left them to trail after her.

The morning suns, both of them, dazzled her eyes, shining off endless waters of the brightest Caribbean blue. No matter what direction she looked in, there were stretches of water speckled with vividly colorful islands lush with flora, high cliffs that sparkled like schist, and soft glittery beaches lapped by azure waves. In the distance, she could make out bobbing boats, and the shadows of large sea animals gliding through the water. Like, scary large. Whale-sized marine life in large pods weaving around the boats.

Higher in the cliffs, a plateau supported what seemed to be a large landing pad where a traffic of spaceships seemed to be continuous. Smaller shuttles disappeared into and exited from the cliff face. She marveled at the blend of high-tech futurism and exotic tropical paradise. Her fingers itched to grab for her bag and start pulling out paints and canvas… and for a sex on the beach cocktail to sip on while working.

A’Jular nudged her gently, his lips curving into a small indulgent smile. “Don’t worry, ziia. Our den has a great view of the water and much of the island. When you get tired of painting the view from there, I will take you around the isle to paint whatever you like.”

She smiled happily up at him, immensely pleased that he would be so thoughtful to consider her interests. Her grin widened as she caught Sha’melor grunt an unfamiliar, but what she guessed to be highly uncomplimentary, word at him that had A’Jular snapping his spines in irritation.

E’budar smirked. “Don’t mind these two. They are naturally competitive. Meanwhile, I don’t see any need to try to go up against them. We all know that I will be the favorite. I spend much of my day in our nest taking care of the business end of our clan’s trading company, so I will get the pleasure of seeing all your needs when their responsibilities take them away.”

“Oh, so you’ll be the one I want to choke at the end of the day?” she teased.

He gave her a slow wink. “I can think of a few choking methods I would not object to,” he murmured.

Destiny flushed hotly. She had a pretty good idea what he was thinking about, and she didn’t object at all.
